Introduction to the Statutes of Volia Alliance:
We humans are not meant to stand alone. We need communities – relationships where we are seen, acknowledged, and given the opportunity to take responsibility. It is in this interaction that we develop as individuals and members of society.
Civil society forms the framework for this development. It is the sum of natural communities that emerge between families, associations, cooperatives, networks and idea-driven movements. Here trust, values and a sense of responsibility arise.
In meeting Ukraine, we have witnessed this with our own eyes. Under the pressure of war and destruction, civil society rises as a network of hope for defence, development, and human dignity. When the public sector fails or collapses, people step forward for one another. They form communities that bring food, medicine, care, and meaning – supporting each other through the unbearable. This is where freedom comes alive. Not as an abstract principle, but as a practice: standing firm, reaching out, taking responsibility – together.
