Volia Alliance is a community
of hope and action
Volia Alliance is a new Nordic platform that brings together people and organisations to strengthen civil society in Ukraine. The name Volia means both will and freedom – two forces that have carried the Ukrainian people through revolutions, oppression and war.
As an alliance, we build bridges between the Nordic and Ukrainian civil societies. We connect ideas, experiences, and projects so that knowledge and commitment can be transformed into concrete support and lasting change.
Volia Alliance is a community of hope and action. We believe that civil society is where people grow in trust, responsibility, and community – where freedom takes shape and meaning, and where we strengthen the human and democratic foundation in a free Ukraine.
That is why we join forces across borders to support those who build communities every day amid war and adversity.

Explanation
In Ukrainian, volia (Воля) means both will and freedom.
In addition to referring to will and freedom, Volia describes not only the absence of coercion but also the inner strength to act, choose, and overcome adversity. It is this word that Ukrainians often turn to when expressing the strength that has carried the country through revolutions, oppression, and now war. It is a word that conveys hope – and determination.
The word “Alliance” emphasises that this should unite organisations across values and activities, to contribute to a committed collaboration between people and civil society organisations in Denmark and the Nordic countries.
